HIGH SCHOOL TRAP (HST)
Dale Barnick was invited to a Kanabec County Pheasants Forever meeting by a friend in 2011. During the meeting Dale was introduced to the emerging sport of High School Trap.
Dale began researching the possibilities and discovered that in 2008, Minnesota had a high school league of trap shooting as a sport consisting of three teams and 30 student athletes. The Minnesota State High School Clay Target League (MNSHSCTL) was started.
In 2012, Dale contacted the Mora and Ogilvie schools and went to their
school board meetings to ask if this was something that we would be able to do at our local schools. After attending several meetings Dale was given the go ahead to start HST in both Mora and Ogilvie schools.
Interested families started contacting Dale so the end of March 2013 we started a Mora team with 10 athletes and a Ogilvie team with 5 athletes.
Since that time it has grown to having up to 60 athletes between the two schools. It is a coed sport so both boys and girls can participate.
Today this has grown to a national sport with 34 states, 1,466 teams, and 43,009 athletes participating in 2023.
